DGS achieves International School Award

Posted on: 20/12/2018

Once again, DGS is celebrating being awarded the British Council's International School Award for 2018-2021.

This is a highly prestigious award that recognised the breadth and quality of the international dimension of learning here at DGS, both in and outside the taught curriculum.

Events like World Languages Day where the whole school celebrates the language and culture of many other countries, and International Day where we invite hundreds of local primary school students to enjoy a day of immersive cultural learning are the centrepiece of this provision.

However, our engagement with the Mandarin Excellence Programme, numerous trips and exchanges to other countries, the fact we teach 5 languages (plus any home languages students may join us with) and encourage our students to always look to the rest of the world for inspiration, learning and enrichment certainly helped us gain this recognition!

It is particularly pleasing this year because we think this re-designation makes it over 20 continuous years that we have been in receipt of the award (nobody in school can quite remember when we first had it because it has become such a part of our culture over so many years!).

Particular thanks must go, of course, to the MFL department and especially Mrs Warnock who, although she left us in the summer term, was instrumental in making sure we achieved the award once again.
