Year 8 team represents DGS at regional heat of Kids' Lit Quiz

Posted on: 28/11/2018

On the afternoon of Tuesday 27th November, four of our Year 8 students travelled to Cokethorpe School to take part in the Oxon/Berks heat of the Kids' Lit Quiz. Ava Corcoran, Antonia Boboc, Elizabeth Brawn and Elizabeth Rutterford were selected to represent the school after competing against other teams in their year group at the end of last academic year to see who had the ultimate knowledge of children's literature. Since then, they have been reading as many books as they possibly can, and meeting up regularly to practise quiz questions.

The girls performed exceptionally well against 28 other teams made up of students from all across the region. Their final score was 79 out of a possible total of 100. This was the third highest score of the competition and tied DGS with two other teams. Ultimately, only one team could be awarded third place, and an incredibly tense tie-breaker question saw a team from Our Lady's Abingdon score the final point to come third overall. The DGS team were just three points behind the winning team from Magdalen College School, who will go forward to represent the county in the National Final in London next week. We wish them the best of luck.

Massive congratulations to the DGS team for keeping their nerve and displaying an amazing amount of knowledge of children's literature amidst fierce competition.
