Year 9 students visit Williams Formula One

Posted on: 09/07/2019

On Monday 24th June, DGS were invited to take ten Year 9 students to Williams Formula One to celebrate National Women in Engineering Day. As part of the day, a series of activities were arranged to give the girls an insight into the life on an engineer and to discuss some of the stereotypes.

After a tour of the Williams F1 museum students took part in a team challenge in which they had to work together to make a protective casing for an egg so that when it was dropped from a height it would not crack. Both teams were successful in this! Students also heard talks from women within the business, as well as a female engineer from Unilever. This was followed by a question and answer session from Claire Williams, who is the deputy team principal of the Williams F1 racing team.

It was incredible to see the students’ energy and enthusiasm in response to such an inspiring day of activities. At the end of the day, the students were asked whether they would consider a job in engineering in the future and the overwhelming response was “yes”. We are excited to see the excellent female engineers that will emerge from DGS in the near future!
