Students enjoy Book Shop Spree, courtesy of The Siobhan Dowd Trust
Posted on: 23/01/2019On Thursday 17th January, students from Years 7, 8 and 9 travelled to Mostly Books in Abingdon to take part in a Bookshop Spree, courtesy of The Siobhan Dowd Trust. The Trust is a charity that 'works to give young people the opportunity to read and enjoy literature', and granted the school £500 to spend on books, following a successful bid from Mrs Barnes in November.
The girls spent an enjoyable hour at Mostly Books, selecting titles from the vast array available and taking advantage of the excellent recommendations on offer from the book sellers. The shop very generously provided us with a discount on the books we bought, which enabled us to purchase even more!
It was wonderful for the students to be able to explore all the fantastic books for young people that are out there at the moment (which was certainly much more fun than online shopping!) and to be able to support a local independent business in the process.
Keep a look out for all the new titles appearing in the library over the coming weeks; the girls selected a very thoughtful range so there really is something for everybody.
Our deepest thanks go to The Siobhan Dowd Trust for providing us with the funding, and to Mostly Books for facilitating the spree for us.
