Art installation commemorates 100 years since the end of WW1

Posted on: 05/11/2018

11th November 2018 marks 100 years since the end of WW1, and to commemorate this special Remembrance Day we have created a large-scale Art installation in St Frideswides building, which is the oldest building at DGS.

Acrylic poppies etched with 'lest we forget' have been suspended from the underside of the tree in the smaller of the quads in St Frideswides building. Hung together, they create a mesmerising display, with the poppies gently dancing and moving in the breeze, appearing to twinkle when they catch the light. The installation offers students, staff and visitors the opportunity to pause and remember those who have fought for our own freedom.

Students helped attach the poppies once they had been cut on the DT laser cutter, and we've been able to display around 500 in total, but all students will be able to purchase one once the display is dismantled, with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion.
