Year 12 Art students present immersive installation at 'Shoulder to Shoulder' showcase

Posted on: 18/10/2018

For the past 6 weeks, Year 12 Art students have been working with Haste Theatre company (a female-led contemporary theatre ensemble) on an installation that represents female identity. The installation uses boxes from Haste's 'Where the Hell is Bernard' production that act as vessels entrapping and displaying information about themselves, as well as elements of suffragette stories and their bravery. Our collaboration drew to an end with the Oxfordshire 'Shoulder to Shoulder' showcase at Cornerstone, Didcot.

The performance showcased the 2 projects that have been developed in Oxfordshire. Vamos Theatre (one of the UK’s leading mask companies) developed a new play with students from Abingdon & Witney College, and Haste Theatre worked with our students on their immersive installation. The stage was lit prior to the performance and the audience were invited to interact with the artwork on stage. It was incredibly powerful to see so many people enjoying the work and the buzz of excitement was palpable.

I'm so proud of the students for taking on such a diverse 'launch project' and I have been overwhelmed by their independence and maturity throughout-well done all!

The work will be back at DGS very soon for a second showcase!
