House Captain Team commemorate centenary of the end of WW1
Posted on: 28/09/2018On 25th of September, a group of students from DGS were invited to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War. It was a day to honour those who gave their lives in this conflict, including those from, or connected to, Didcot. The community of Didcot came together to pay their respects and honour the soldiers who fought bravely for our future.
The ceremony took place at the Smallbone Recreation ground, where the war memorial is cited, and has now been designated as a century field marking. As part of the service, we placed remembrance crosses on the war memorial, each bearing the name of someone with a connection to Didcot who died in World War One. There were 28 crosses in total, each placed by a student from both primary and secondary schools around Didcot.
It was a great honour to be invited to this commemoration of the end of the Great War, and to remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us. Dr Khan, along with Lily Gilmour, Maisi King, Leah Halsey and Jessica Fuller, was very proud to be honouring those who lost their lives for the town of Didcot, and the country.
