51³Ô¹ÏÍø awarded inaugural Reading for Pleasure Award

Posted on: 10/09/2018

At the end of last term, Didcot Girls' School received an inaugural CWIG Reading for Pleasure Award from The Society of Authors. The award was set up as a simple way for authors and illustrators to express their appreciation for schools that are truly dedicated to promoting a love of reading.

We were nominated by our Patron of Reading, Jo Cotterill, who said 'The Library Manager, Mrs Barnes, is fully supported by the Heads and the teaching staff, and every time I visit, I notice the quotes from books stuck on the backs of the toilet doors in the staff toilets! It is a school that recognises the value of reading for pleasure and is keen to explore new ways of approaching this. The Executive Headteacher, Mrs Warwick, has always been welcoming and enthusiastic during my visits, and I have been guest speaker at prize giving as well as giving talks and running a character-based song-writing workshop. The Library itself is always busy at break and lunchtimes, showing just how much the students enjoy the space and find it stimulating and comforting.'

We are very proud to have been chosen for this award, and look forward to sharing all of this year's exciting Reading for Pleasure initiatives with you.
