Year 7 enjoy visit from author Sophie Kirtley

Posted on: 15/10/2024

On Thursday 3rd October, Sophie Kirtley came to Didcot Girls' School to talk to Year 7. We kicked off the afternoon with a book sale in the library, which saw dozens of students queueing to get their copy of 'The Wild Way Home' signed by Sophie. This was the book that many Year 7 students had chosen as their transition text at the start of the year, so they were excited to meet the author and get their books signed.

Following this, Sophie spoke to the whole year group about her writing and specifically about her brand new book, 'The Haunting of Fortune Farm'. There's even now a signed copy in the library that students can borrow!

Year 7 student, Hayleigh, had this to say about the visit:

When I heard that an author was coming to speak to Year 7, I was so excited to meet her and hear about how she wrote her stories.

Sophie Kirtley is such a fun and bubbly person, and I am so glad I got to meet her.

In our library lesson we got a book written by Sophie Kirtley: The Wild Way Home. I read the book within two days because of how good it was. When Sophie came to DGS she read us some of her new book It was so interesting and I really want to read it all.

In conclusion it was an amazing experience that I would love to have again.

This is the second year in row that we have welcomed Sophie to speak to our Year 7s, and we are hoping to make it something of an annual tradition!
