U14 Netball Team crowned Oxfordshire County Schools Champions

Posted on: 20/11/2017

On Saturday 18th November, DGS competed at the U14 County Schools Netball tournament in Oxford. We knew that the competition was going to be tough and we had to play our best possible netball; results as follows:

Cokethorpe - 26-0 WIN
Bloxham - 16- 0 WIN
Oxford High - 11-1 WIN
St Helens & St Katherines - 10-4 WIN

After convincingly winning our group stages, we progressed to the semi final against Lord Williams School, winning 11-1. We met Headington School in the final; the girls were extremely nervous but knew that now was the time to shine. After minor errors from both teams, the score was 2-2 at half time. After a few words of advice, the girls had 7 minutes to change the score line. It was an exciting second half, with various turnover balls across the court. The pressure was on for the shooters, but the final score was 8-4 to DGS!

The girls played some quality netball, intercepting balls, converting turnovers and playing all morning with a sense of grit and determination. The team were recognised by coaches, officials and parents for their outstanding sporting attitude and fantastic performance. The team was crowned U14 Oxfordshire County Schools Champions (undefeated!) and will progress to compete at the regional round in 2018!

Congratulations to Rosie Park (C), Phoebe Maslen, Gen Carey, Seren Fullbrook, Jorja Smith, Izzy Langley, Laura Millar, Rebecca Agg and Celena Appleby-Prince.
