Students celebrate Science Week

Posted on: 21/03/2022

From 14-18th March Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils celebrated National Science Week in the classroom. With a theme of ‘growth’, Year 7 and 8 pupils worked together to produce an encoded message within a series of DNA base combinations worked out meticulously by our Senior Science Club pupils. Using just 4 bases (or letters) they produced an 81 character message about science week, without the use of a single letter ‘O’ or ‘U’. Not an easy task.

Also on the theme of growth, four Year 7 groups also worked on making tall towers from marshmallows and spaghetti and were able to make some very impressive, and also very messy, designs. Great work!

In our Year 9 science classes our pupils were challenged to build the longest most intricate rollercoasters possible out of insulation piping. Well done to 9A1 who achieved a score of 21 points, making them our current school record holders in this task!

Thanks to all of the science teachers, technicians and science club pupils that helped make our science week a great success once again.
