Please enjoy the Thought for the Term from the Kennedy House Ethos Leaders

Posted on: 10/12/2021

With mocks and other exams taking place across the school, many of us are, quite understandably, focused on academics. But creativity can be just as important as facts and figures. It could be argued that creativity and originality is far more useful than technical skills and exam results when it comes to living in and enjoying our world.

The Oxford Dictionary defines creativity as ‘the use of skill and imagination to produce something new or to produce art’, but it can be much more than that. Creativity does not always lead to innovation or a tangible product. It cannot be given a grade, or taught, in the way other skills can. It is difficult to define something so broad, yet so specific, to each individual. It is something that everyone uses in their own unique way. Creativity offers us a unique lens to look through life at. It allows us to explore the world we live in and our own identities.

It is vital that creativity takes centre stage in the educational system so that we can become truer versions of ourselves. With so much of our learning, and of our society, being based on what is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, creativity and originality must be embraced if we are to grow and develop as individuals. Being creative is the best achievement we can ever attain.

Creativity offers us meaning and enrichment to our lives. It brings passion, joy, and individuality to our world. It is through creativity that we discover ourselves.
